SUMMARY:Enabling Secure Data Discoverability
DESCRIPTION:Tutorial\n\nEnabling Secure Data Discoverability\n\nVasiliadis
, Raumann, Ananthakrishnan\n\nMajor research instruments are generating or
ders of magnitude more data in relatively short timeframes. As a result,
the research enterprise is increasingly challenged by what should be munda
ne tasks: describing data for discovery and making data securely accessibl
e to the broader research community. The ad hoc methods currently employe
d place undue burden on scientists and system administrators alike, and it
is clear that a more robust, scalable approach is required.\n\nBespoke da
ta portals (and science gateways/data commons) are becoming more prominent
as a means of enabling access to large datasets. We will demonstrate how
services for authentication, authorization, metadata management, and sear
ch may be integrated with popular web frameworks, and used in combination
with fast, well-architected networks to make data discoverable and accessi
ble. Attendees will experiment with building a simple, but functional, da
ta portal that facilitates flexible data description, faceted data search
and secure data access.\n\nTag: In-Person Only, Data Management, Security\
