DESCRIPTION:Invited Talk\n\nPowering HPC Discoveries through Scientific So
 ftware Ecosystems and Communities\n\nMcInnes\n\nHPC software—cutting-edge 
 technology that encapsulates advances in mathematics, computer science, an
 d domain-specific science and engineering—is a cornerstone of long-term co
 llaboration and scientific progress.  As we leverage unprecedented HPC res
 ources to work toward predictive science, software complexity is increasin
 g due to disruptive changes in computer architectures and the complexities
  of tackling new frontiers in extreme-scale modeling, simulation, and anal
 ysis. These challenges create the unique opportunity to fundamentally chan
 ge how scientific software is designed, developed, and sustained—embracing
  community collaboration toward scientific software ecosystems, while fost
 ering a diverse HPC workforce who embody a broad range of skills and persp
 ectives.\n\nThis presentation will introduce work in the U.S. Exascale Com
 puting Project (ECP), where a varied suite of scientific applications buil
 ds on programming models and runtimes, math libraries, data and visualizat
 ion packages, and development tools that comprise the Extreme-scale Scient
 ific Software Stack (E4S). We will explain how E4S—a portfolio-driven effo
 rt to collect, test, and deliver the latest advances in open-source HPC so
 ftware technologies—is helping to overcome challenges in collaboration acr
 oss distributed aggregate teams. We will discuss the complementary skills 
 of team members, including research software engineers, project coordinato
 rs, and experts in cognitive and social science.  We will introduce crossc
 utting strategies that are increasing developer productivity and software 
 sustainability, thereby mitigating technical risks by building a firmer fo
 undation for reproducible, sustainable science.  We will also mention comp
 lementary community efforts and opportunities for involvement.\n\nTag: HPC
