SUMMARY:CyberTraining: Pilot – A Professional Development and Certificati
 on Program for Cyberinfrastructure Facilitators
DESCRIPTION:Workshop\n\nCyberTraining: Pilot – A Professional Development
and Certification Program for Cyberinfrastructure Facilitators\n\nNeeman,
Brunson, Colbry\n\nThis CyberTraining pilot project is initiating the Cer
tified Cyberinfrastructure Facilitator Training and Development (CCIFTD) p
 rogram, a first-of-its-kind, non-matriculated certification of professiona
l development for Cyberinfrastructure Facilitators. The Cyberinfrastructur
e (CI) workforce suffers from a critical deficit of CI Facilitators, who w
ork directly with researchers to advance the computing-intensive/data-inte
nsive aspects of their research. CCIFTD's purpose is to attest to proficie
ncy in core skills needed for facilitating computing/data-intensive resear
ch, across all Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) dis
ciplines. The focus is on crucial professional/interpersonal skills, and c
omplementary research computing technical topics. CCIFTD will establish bo
th (A) the set of skills and (B) a means for determining whether a CI Faci
litator has these skills and thus merits certification. This project promo
tes the progress of science by accelerating STEM research, in particular b
y training and certifying a national cohort of research computing professi
onals who work directly with STEM researchers to advance the computing/dat
a-intensive aspects of their research. Such research is becoming increasin
gly important across all STEM disciplines, while at the same time large sc
ale and advanced computing is becoming more challenging to learn. Financia
l efficiency is achieved via a "train the trainers" approach: every Facili
tator trained by CCIFTD is anticipated to work with dozens or hundreds of
researchers over their career.\n\nTag: Education and Training and Outreach
