 t (10:00-11:15)\n\nUrbanic, Patil, Engelke\n\nThe laws of physics have dic
 tated that modern computers are very parallel. This applies to cellphones 
 and video game consoles as well as supercomputers. We will first discuss w
 hy this is so. Then, we will talk about what the modern programmer must do
  to take advantage of this parallel capability. There are a variety of tec
 hniques, from multi-core programming on any regular CPU, to the more exoti
 c and powerful techniques used for GPU programming, and ultimately the mes
 sage-passing programming used for the world's largest machines, such as th
 e upcoming exascale supercomputers. We will take a look at each of these p
 aradigms. Finally, we will discuss the roadmap of future computers, which 
 includes exotic new approaches like quantum computing, and the AI-focused 
 neuromorphic computing. Questions will be encouraged and important scienti
